This is Darrell's 1974 Chevy Nova.

The Nova says "Sorry, I let you down guys. I really wanted to go on this trip. I know you had fun without me. "

Sandy's Mochatini...................yummy

Las Vegas, NM

Last overnight stop before Denver. Dined at Dick's Restaurant in the historic area downtown.

Santa Fe, NM

Toured this city just to see the art work. Very beautiful and would like to re-visit when more time is available.

Albuquerque, NM

Red Ball Cafe - Home of the Wimpy Burger
Delicious! We saw Popeye and Olive Oyl hanging around too.

Darrell is back on the road again heading to Albuquerque, NM.

Next challenge - find a Wimpy burger for lunch.

Grants, NM

We spent the night here and enjoyed dinner with brother Jon . Jon is working here on a uranium clean-up project by the EPA. Belinda held a rock sample with uranium so Jon could show the level of radiation with the geiger meter. Yikes, could be glowing in the dark tonight!

We stopped at Jon's office for a tour. I can assure you this was a primitive place and no tax dollars were being wasted! Check out that paneling.

Back on Day 4, Charlie did a fly by of the Jack Rabbit. As "luck" would have it, this time he wanted to stop for a photo op!!

Day 7 - Williams, AZ - Grants, NM

New day, now heading east again. We stopped at the Twin Arrows Trading post and Valentine Diner.

Saturday, May 22, 2010

We drove back east to Williams, AZ. We thought it would be fun to see the neon lights on the diner. What a great idea, it was really cool.
We spent the night here as planned to head to Grants, NM on Thursday morning.

California!!!! We made it.
Our Route 66 adventure has been great.
Now we turn around and head back east.

Historic Route 66 sign in western Arizona.

Still heading west in Arizona.
Getting close to California.

Charlie, the Oatman Town Marshall, has seen better days.

What's up with this burro? Shopaholic?

Day 6 - Kingman, AZ - Needles, CA - Williams, AZ

Oatman, AZ
Old gold mining town where burros were used by miners. When the mining days ended the burros were turned loose and still live here. The tourists feed carrots to the burros, except the babies who wear a sticker on their heads indicating "no carrots" allowed.

Winding down in Kingman, AZ. We enjoyed dinner at the old Dam Restarant and of course everything was Dam good.

Belinda hanging out with a Hippie chick.
Sandy and Darrell waiting for their ice cold cherry Cokes.
Charlie - not sure why he wanted to sit on the cactus. Maybe he saw that scene in an old movie.

Old Burma Shave signs behind store.
Hackberry General Store, looks like the Hippies
had a "special" door!

Old gas station in Williams, AZ

Williams, AZ
Crusiers Cafe 66 Bar and Grill
This place was awesome.

HMM, pow wow between Darrell and Charlie.
Reading the maps? Nope, LOST again!

Day 5 - Flagstaff, AZ - Kingman, AZ

Look at Charlie, flying down a GRAVEL road. Did he even think about rock chips???

Old iron bridge on early Route 66, west of Winona. Check out the snow capped mountains!

Winslow, AZ

Made our way west to Winslow, AZ.
Of course we had to get pictures - "STANDING ON A CORNER in Winslow, AZ."

Hopped right on by the old giant Jack Rabbit!
