Drove through rain and fog starting at Raton, NM, but made our way to Tucumcari about 3:00 p.m. Sandy and Darrell were hiding along side the Blue Swallow Motel anxiously awaiting to film our arrival. What a surprise they were not driving the Nova, they had car problems and had to take it back to Iowa. At least we are all here together and will still travel west on Route 66. We met the owners of the motel, Terri and Bill. Oh my gosh, the guys talked about old cars and bonded right away!
The motel is wonderful, we are in rooms 2 and 3 and have our own garages. The rooms are so quaint, different style quilts in every room, colored printed sheets and colored towels! Bill recommended we eat dinner at the Pow Wow restaurant/Lizard Lounge and we did…..Yummy!
We toured around town, there are so many historic motels, it is like living back in the 50’s. There are murals painted on various buildings throughout the town. Hopefully the sun will be shining for our photo op tomorrow.
